The new facility will also boast an elementary charter school with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) emphasis.
The purpose of this project is to assist individuals with moderate to severe quality of life needs to become more empowered, helping them gain the tools they need to succeed in life, support themselves and their families, and become fully integrated in their communities as productive citizens. The Center will primarily be serving at-risk groups such as homeless individuals, single mothers, at-risk youth, and seniors.
Approximately 4.6 million Texans live in poverty, representing 18.5 percent of the state’s population in 2011. Texas ranks last in the number of the population who have graduated from high school, and 41st in the number of high school graduates attending college. Empowerment Development Center helps offset the effects of these statistics by offering GED courses and job training skills that will allow individuals to obtain valuable employment and become self-sufficient. Its aim is to rebuild individuals from the inside out.
